Robert Rupp and the James H. Waltner submission say he was born 28 July in Poland. Many of the Paulsheim references in this family are incorrect, as Paulsheim was not established until 1852. This family cannot be located in the 1835 Molotschna census, and so it is likely that they migrated to Russia after the census. The village Gnadenfeld was founded in 1835 after the census, so they might have migrated to Russia with the Gnadenfeld group, but there is no record of any Jacob Pankratz migrating anytime after 1820! He married Maria David #255880, married Abt 1825 in Paulsheim, Molotschna, South Russia.

29. Maria David #255880, b. 15 May 1804 in Posnan, Poland,,, d. 1893 in Paulsheim, Molotschna, South Russia.,, Her surname was probably NOT David! This is likely a patronymic according to the Russian style, which would mean that her father's first name was likely David.

Furthermore, her first husband is said to have died in 1788! There is clearly some confusion here. Either she is born far earlier than 1789, or there are more "Susanna's" than one. Clarification is definitely needed! Furthermore, I cannot locate her in Muntau in 1835. Her age appears to have been incorrectly given as 45 and her first name is given as Eva in the 1803 immigration list found on p. 69 of Peter Rempel's book Mennonite Migration to Russia, 1788-1828. 19976. Jan De Veer,,, #196491, b. 11 Aug 1521 in Veere, Zeeland, Netherlands. X Jan, lebte in Schiedam. (Mittlg. d. Sipp-Verb. Danziger Menn, Gˆttg. 1939).

An archivist in the archives office in Veere, Holland suggested that our DeVeer family could have originated in Schiedam where many Veere residents fled to after Veere came under the control of the Duke of Burgundy in the early 16th century (as a result of the Dowery of his new wife). He said these refugees usually adopted the name DeVeer.

In the tower of the local 500 year old City Hall there is a citizen registry book started in the 15th century. There is an entry for Janss Gysbrecht (Janss. Gijsbrecht) , born Aug.11, 1521. The archivist speculated that this could be the father of our earliest known ancestor Gysbert Jansz DeVeer (1556-1615) if he had moved from Veere to Schiedam, as the name of the son then was usually the father's but reversed. Schiedam was a trading port under the control of one of the Mercantile Trading Companies established by the state and all the records about its citizens prior to approximately 1700 were taken to the state archives in Amsterdam where they remain.
